An SUV struck and killed a pedestrian early Saturday in Midtown Anchorage, according to police.

Officers responded at about 1:20 a.m. Saturday to a report of a vehicle hitting a pedestrian at the intersection of the Seward Highway and Benson Boulevard and found a woman in the roadway, police said in a statement.
An initial investigation found that a dark SUV hit the woman and did not stop, police said. According to an update Saturday afternoon, police had found the vehicle and contacted the driver.

No charges or citations had been filed in the case as of Monday morning. The collision is being investigated by the police department’s Major Collision Investigation Unit.
Saturday’s collision marks the fifth pedestrian killed by a vehicle in Anchorage this year.
