An Anchorage woman fatally struck a pedestrian on the city’s northeast side Thursday morning, police say.

Anchorage police said they were alerted at around 8:15 a.m. Thursday to a report of a vehicle hitting a pedestrian near the intersection of Orca Street and East 3rd Avenue. Anchorage Fire Department medics declared a woman dead at the scene.
Police identified Vaiee Samuelu, 60, as the vehicle’s driver and said she had not remained at the scene of the collision. She was arrested and brought to the Anchorage jail on charges of failing to render aid and leaving the scene of a crash.

Charging documents for the case were not immediately available.
Police did not identify the woman killed in the crash, saying Thursday they still need to notify next of kin. Six people have been fatally struck by vehicles in Anchorage so far in 2026.
Samuelu was held at Hiland Mountain Correctional Center and scheduled to make an initial court appearance on the charges Friday afternoon.
