According to a statement, police responded to the call around 10 p.m. Saturday. Bertha Nesbit, 62, was crossing Muldoon, between Peck and Duben avenues, when she was struck by a Ford Escape, officers say. Fire department medics attempted to save her, but she was declared dead on scene.

The driver of the SUV remained on scene after the collision, police say. No charges have been filed at this time.

Police closed part of Muldoon for about five hours as they investigated.

Nesbit is the eighth pedestrian killed by a vehicle in Anchorage this year, and the second pedestrian killed in less than a week. September and October tend to see higher rates of vehicles hitting pedestrians as skies get darker ahead of snowfall, city traffic officials say.

Both 2025 and 2024 saw 15 pedestrians struck and killed by vehicles on Anchorage streets.
