Several trails in East Anchorage are closed after an increase in bear activity in the area, according to a Tuesday.

Multiple trails in Far North Bicentennial Park and the Campbell Tract are temporarily closed.
The closures are a precautionary measure after close encounters between trail users and brown bears, as well as observations made by biologists with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game and Bureau of Land Management, the statement said.
The announcement comes days after a woman was attacked and injured on the Wolverine Bowl trail on Anchorage’s Hillside.

The temporary closure of the trails will provide space for bears to forage in the area, while also reducing the risk of negative human-bear encounters, the statement said.
Officials urge the public to respect trail closures and to exercise caution and bear awareness.
